When decks are designed or extended and built right the aim is to create a seamless flow from inside to out. It should look like it was always there, not something that was tacked on later. When it comes to extensions and renovations this may require a match-up of existing materials and features so it all connects together.

Deck Building Materials

Treated Pine Decking

Treaded pine decking is amongst the most afforable solutions. Typically a pale colour it comes treated to withstand termites and mould. This material will not last quite as long as hardwood and composite decking and can be prone to movement, curl and warping if exposed to various weather conditions. Added protection can be achieved by using stain or paint finishes though it will require ongoing maintenance to keep it looking like new.

Hardwood Decking

Hardwood decking is durable and built to last a long time. They wear well in the harsh South East Queensland weather and look great too. It does require maintenance to keep the colour vibrant and maintain the long lifespan - stains and varnishes come in a range of colours and effects. Deck Solutions offers high value maintenance packages to take the stress and effort out of annual maintenance.

Popular options include Merbua, Ironbark, Spottedgum and Blackbutt. These options come in sizes of 65mm, 90mm and 140mm.

Composite Decking

This is a relatively new product and there are a few different suppliers available. Most are a mix of timber particles and recycled plastics. Composite decking is maintenance free, UV, rot and termite resistant. The only aspect to be mindful of is that it can be scratched or marked if not treated with care.

Popular options include EcoDeck, NexGen and Modwood.

There are many handrail options available and everyone tends to have a personal preference on the style they like best. It is important to select a style that matches your connecting environment so it looks like it all blends together. While safety is the main factor it is important to style it correctly also.

Our handrails are built to MBA (Master Builders Association) standards and we keep up to date with any changes in these specifications.

Stairs are often used to create more functionality for your outdoor area adding access for different areas. We have had an increased demand to replace older style designs with the more modern galvanised steel stringer combo'd up with hardwood treads and posts.

We have also had an increased request for enclosed stairs to utilise storage space and offer a neater finish in the alfresco zones itself. Enclosed, raised decks and both popular and practical - you can never have too much storage.

Another popular request in recent years is built-in bench seats using the floor decking. We can build a variety of sizes, work in planter boxes or finish off deck edging with back-rest seating instead of handrails. Clients have finished off these spaces with throw cushions or custom made bench seat cushions to add colour and style. Modern, visually stunning and practical.
